FIELD NOTES #010
Anchor Focus: Skills
Skills are the fourth Anchor in The Compass.
Not personality traits.
Not mystical powers granted at birth.
Just trainable capacities that either reinforce your identity or quietly sabotage it.
Every time you say:
“I can’t stay focused.”
“I’m just bad with money.”
“I don’t know how to manage my time.”
What you’re saying is: “I haven’t trained that yet.”
We live in a culture obsessed with feelings:
Feeling confident.
Feeling aligned.
Feeling ready.
But confidence doesn’t come before performance; it comes after practice.
When I started rebuilding, I wanted better outcomes.
But I hadn’t trained the mechanics.
So I kept spinning—ashamed, frustrated, stuck.
Until I reframed it:
Not as a flaw.
As a training plan.
Because if it’s a skill, it’s not permanent.
It’s not personal.
It’s just unpracticed.
Weekly Compass Question
What am I currently calling a flaw that might simply be a skill I haven’t trained yet?
Trail Task
This week, pick one area where you feel stuck.
Now ask yourself:
If this were a skill I could train, what would the first rep look like?
Then do it. Once. No perfection, just repetition.
Because repetition reshapes reality.
Until next time - Engage. Adapt. Overcome.
